Success Story: This farmer changed his fortune by growing ‘yellow gold’ in a barren field

Success Story: With perseverance and hard effort, a farmer in Bhatgaon, in the Korba region of Chhattisgarh, has produced “yellow gold” by turning arid terrain into productive soil. In addition to transforming Dilip Kumar Kanwar’s life, this inspiring tale of a member of the tribal group is serving as a model for other farmers.

In the once arid area, Dilip has planted sunflowers. He started by thoroughly plowing the ground and then applied organic manure to make it fruitful. He planted sunflower seeds in the ground when it was ripe for the crop after much labor. In Dilip’s field, sunflower blossoms are flourishing despite the intense heat. Sunflower flowers are unique in that their petals open toward the sun. Dilip tended to his crops and drew inspiration from sunflower harvests.

Two to two and a half lakhs in profit

Dilip’s farming, however, goes beyond this. In addition, he planted peanuts and sunflowers. He is simultaneously engaging in double farming in this manner. “I planted this crop on three acres of land,” Dilip said. In addition, he has adorned the ridges with sunflower blossoms. Additionally, peanuts have been sown under the ridges.

Dilip is getting ready to harvest the crop in May after beginning farming in February. He anticipates earning two to two and a half lakh rupees from the extraction of oil from sunflowers and peanuts. He said that before, his land was entirely bare and unusable for growing anything. However, he turned it fruitful by putting organic manure and plowing the fields for months.

Created fertility on arid land

Other farmers in the community have also been motivated by Dilip’s achievements. Approximately ten Bhatgaon farmers are now cultivating sunflower blooms on thirty acres. While some farmers have little blooms, others have a big yield. The sunflower flower will release more oil if it is larger in size. But now, after Dilip’s example, the farmers in this community have begun growing sunflower flowers. Dilip’s tale demonstrates how even unfruitful ground can be turned into fertile land and how farmers’ lives can be transformed with perseverance and hard effort.
