Success Story: There was a time when he was facing financial crisis, today ‘egg funda’ made him a millionaire

Success Story: At the age of sixteen, Ravindra Metkar, a native of a tiny town in Maharashtra’s Amravati district, began raising chickens. At the age of fifty-five, he makes up to Rs 60,000 a day now. He had a peon for a father. The family was having trouble making ends meet. Ravindra began her career at a young age. Through perseverance and commitment, he succeeded in the poultry industry. His path has had a lot of ups and downs. He never gave up, however.

In the past, he worked for merely Rs. 5 a day

When Ravindra was sixteen years old, he began working at a pharmacy store, earning only Rs five a day. He completed his education in spite of his financial struggles, even walking to college to make ends meet. One of his neighbors was a successful chicken farmer. This gave Ravindra the idea to give it a shot as well.

I began work with 3,000 rupees

Using Rs 3,000 from his father’s Provident Fund (PF), Ravindra began his poultry company in 1984 with 100 chicks. His efforts paid off eventually, and by 1994, he had 400 chickens. He maintained his education during this period, earning a post-graduation degree in business in 1992.

Obtained a Rs. 5 lakh bank loan

Subsequently, Ravindra Metkar wed and grew his company by purchasing an acre of property in Amravati. With the help of a bank loan of Rs 5 lakh, he established a farm with 4,000 hens. In addition to rebuilding his home, his company prospered. He grew his farm to 12,000 chickens over time.

Devastating bird flu, but persevered

In 2006, the outbreak of avian flu in India had a severe impact on the poultry business. It was a great loss for Ravindra to have to sell his 16,000 broilers. In 2008, he resumed his company with 20,000 hens and obtained a loan of Rs 25 lakh, demonstrating his perseverance in the face of this setback. Ravindra’s property now covers fifty acres. He has 1.8 lakh hens. His fowl business is doing really well. This brings in up to Rs 60,000 a day for him.
