Pankaj’s Journey
It has modest origins where Shri Pankaj Singh’s narrative is concerned. He began by growing vegetables, wheat and rice on his 2-hectare plot. He got down on it and sweat, only to get bad results while being in a tough financial situation. Pankaj Singh decided to change his luck and visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Siris, Aurangabad. This was one thing that he had decided long back in his life to go for a training course about the whole animal husbanding techniques. He never raised animals, but the KVK extension education gave him interest and hope. He thought that this new venture would bring him stability and success later on.
Pankaj Singh started with eight cows and three buffaloes but encountered several problems. There were many challenges and seemingly insurmountable obstacles during the early days. It was not without its doubts, moments of disappointment where he felt like quitting. The assistance from KVK’s experts was instrumental in helping him to get over these initial hiccups. This helped as well not just in mentorship but also mentally to feel more confident.
Influenced by his dairy farming experience, Pankaj Singh decided to risk it out on goats. He also got more training from Central Goat Research Centre Mathura and KVK. Things shifted as a result. He now manages a herd of form 100 goats, mainly Barbari and Black Bengal. Making more than Rs. 6 lakh on an average annually – through his goat rearing capabilities, He’s now one of the biggest farmers in our hometown and needs special mention here!
