Green Vegetable Cultivation: Six siblings in Laghma Tola of Sitamarhi district have made it a center for growing green vegetables. The group grows green vegetables in 30 bighas, while one brother grows vegetables in 10 bighas. Shivji Singh, a farmer who grows green vegetables, told Local 18 that he has been growing vegetables for 40 years and his ancestors also used to grow vegetables. This tola is considered the center of green vegetables, as he and his five brothers are now growing vegetables as well
Growing green vegetables brings good income
According to farmer Shivji Singh, he grows vegetables in ten bighas. His family is sustained by the green vegetables grown by his five other brothers and nephew. Also, he told that he earns a respectable living by growing vegetables. He is the most active farmer among the six brothers. Apart from his two sons, the women of the house also help in this farming. Apart from this, he also hires laborers sometimes. The next morning, traders queue up to pick up vegetables from his place.
Uses this fertilizer
According to farmer Shivji Singh, vegetable growing is more profitable than traditional farming. He uses only organic fertilizer to grow green vegetables. Since it is winter now, he is using mulching paper to grow green vegetables. Apart from growing other green vegetables, he also grows ladyfinger, tomato, cucumber, brinjal, bitter gourd, pumpkin and cabbage. According to the farmer, he can use modern technology to grow any green crop in any season. He earns Rs 10 to 12 lakh annually from farming, which gives a total income of Rs 15 to 20 lakh annually.
