Cauliflower cultivation: Bokaro farmer earns millions by cultivating cauliflower
Cauliflower cultivation: By growing cauliflower, Sandeep Mahato, a dedicated farmer from Telon village in the Chandrapura block of the Bokaro district, has established a new standard. By growing cauliflower in an area of fifty decimals, Sandeep makes a good living each year and serves as an inspiration to others.
In an exclusive interview with the media, farmer Sandeep spoke about his achievements and said that, as farming is his traditional industry, he has been involved in it for the past 20 years. He decided to cultivate cauliflower at the same time. Because farmers may grow this crop from June to July to February according on their demands, it is available in less time.
Sandeep said that he planted the cauliflower crop in October and had specifically chosen the fortunate variety from the Mukesh and Syngenta firm, which is ready for harvesting in only 110 to 180 days and produces enormous quantities.
Soil testing should be done to determine the pH level of the soil before cauliflower growing begins. The area should next be thoroughly plowed, and in order to protect the crop from disease, the nursery-prepared plants should be soaked in hot water or streptomycin solution before being planted. The plants should be placed 60 cm apart when they are transplanted, and after a few days, a little amount of cow dung and organic manure should be added to boost the output.
About 40 to 50 quintals of cauliflower are produced in an area of 50 decimels at a cost of about 30 to 35,000 rupees. They sell these in the markets of Baghmara, Dhanbad, Bermo, and Fusro, and they make a good profit—up to 2000 rupees per quintal, which gives them a profit of 60 to 65 thousand rupees and an income of up to 1 lakh rupees.
