Desi Cow Palan Subsidy: Farmers may quadruple their revenue if they pursue animal husbandry in addition to farming. In light of this, the Bihar government has launched a unique program to incentivize farmers and young people without jobs to raise native cows. This program is called the “Desi Cow Farming Promotion Scheme,” and it offers a subsidy of up to Rs 2.5 lakh from the government.

‘Desi Cow Farming Promotion Scheme’: what is it?
The Desi Cow Farming Promotion Scheme began in the fiscal year 2023–2024 and is now being carried out more successfully in 2024–2025. Its objectives are to link rural adolescents with self-employment opportunities and to promote cows of indigenous breeds.
Who is going to gain from the plan?
- Small-scale, marginal farmers without land in every district of Bihar
- Farmers that are below the poverty level
- Educated youngsters without jobs
How much land is needed?
- There must be at least five kattha of land for four cows or calves.
- At least 10 kattha of land is needed for a unit of 15 to 20 cows and calves. (Maybe owned or rented.)
