Dairy Animal Insurance Scheme: 75% subsidy will be available on insurance of dairy animals, know how to avail the benefit
Dairy Animal Insurance Scheme: For farmers and cattle ranchers, there is some really good news. They will no longer be concerned about the monetary loss brought on by the premature sickness or death of their dairy cows.

The Directorate of Cows of the Government of Bihar has launched a unique insurance programme for dairy cows, whereby the government provides a 75% insurance premium discount. For small cattle farmers who have been unable to cover their animals up to this point because of high rates or the carelessness of insurance companies, this programme may prove to be a lifeline.
Why is this plan required?
Farmers rely on dairy products like cows and buffaloes as their primary source of revenue. In such a scenario, the farmer must bear a significant financial loss if the animal passes away or gets gravely sick for whatever cause. The primary goal of this insurance programme is to preserve the farmers’ economic stability and provide them financial security in such circumstances.
Highlights of the plan
75% of the insurance premium will be covered by the government: 3.5% of the total animal value has been set as the insurance premium. For instance, the premium will be ₹2,100 if the animal’s maximum price is ₹60,000. The farmer just needs to pay ₹525 of this, while the government will pay ₹1,575 of it.
Maximum insurance value: The programme has set a ₹60,000 maximum insurance value for dairy cattle. The cattle farmers will be much relieved by this.
The ability to apply online
- Farmers must apply online at the Directorate of Cows’ website in order to get the programme’s advantages.
- Following the application, the relevant agency will physically verify the animal to finish the insurance procedure.
Tagging of the ears
- Over the last three years, almost 80% of the cattle have been individually recognised, according to the Animal Husbandry Department.
- A unique number has been assigned to each animal, and this number is noted on the card.
- This number serves as the foundation for ear tagging.
- Only those who have their ears tagged will be eligible for vaccinations, insurance, and other benefits.
- The advantages of the programme will not be available to animals that have not been ear-tagged.
What are the advantages for farmers?
- They will get up to ₹60,000 in financial protection by purchasing insurance for only ₹525.
