Beekeeping will boost farmers’ incomes

In the agricultural industry, beekeeping has the potential to be a lucrative venture. Bees contribute to pollination, which raises agricultural yields. In light of this, the ‘Beekeeping and Honey Production Program (State Plan) 2024-25′ was introduced by the Bihar government. This program’s primary goal is to boost farmers’ incomes and enable them to become self-sufficient in the honey-producing industry.

Experts estimate that beekeeping may boost agricultural yields by 20–25%. In addition, beekeeping provides farmers with a source of extra cash that they may use to fund other agricultural projects.

Benefits offered by the program

The ‘Beekeeping and Honey Production Program (State Plan) 2024-25’ program will provide 10 to 20 bee boxes to each recipient. In addition, 20 crates will come with honey extraction equipment. The cost of honey extraction equipment is ₹20,000, of which 75% would be subsidized for general category recipients and up to 90% for Scheduled Caste and Tribe farmers.

At the same time, ₹4,000 has been set as the unit fee for bee boxes and colonies. The cost of a food-grade container with a 50-kilogram capacity has been set at ₹8,000, with 75% of the subsidy going to general category recipients and up to 90% going to Scheduled Caste and Tribe farmers. Farmers that want to increase their profits at a reasonable cost would particularly benefit from this plan.

Who is eligible to benefit from the plan?

Only new beekeepers are eligible for this program. This year, farmers who have benefited from this program in the previous three years will not get it again. Additionally, in order to profit from the program, training from an approved institution will be required. The farmers will learn about beekeeping practices, honey production, and marketing strategies during this seminar.

The lottery will be used for selection

The lottery mechanism will be used to choose the scheme’s recipients. In other words, not all farmers who apply will profit from the program; only those who are fortunate enough to be chosen will. To prevent any kind of manipulation, this procedure will be transparent and entirely digital.

How do I apply?

Farmers who are interested in applying for the program may do so online by clicking this link. The application procedure requires OTP-based verification. Following their application, the chosen farmers will need to provide the necessary paperwork, which includes their training certificate, land ownership certificate (if applicable), and Aadhar card.
