Ayushman Bharat Scheme: Delhi, the nation’s capital, is now the official site of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Eligible families would get free, cashless care up to Rs 10 lakh a year under this programme. The Central Government will pay Rs 5 lakh of this, while the Delhi Government will pay the remaining Rs 5 lakh. Delhi is now the 35th state or union territory to adopt the Ayushman Bharat programme as a result of this action. West Bengal is now the only state without this programme in place.

During the program’s launch, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said, “This is not only an insurance scheme but an assurance scheme that stands on the foundation of trust for the poor and needy.” He said that the plan has benefitted crores of people nationwide so far and that thousands more households would benefit from its implementation in Delhi.

Ayushman Bharat Yojana: What is it?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in 2018. Its primary goal is to give health care to the nation’s economically disadvantaged groups so they won’t have to pay exorbitant treatment costs. Over 10 crore households nationwide are covered by this programme, which has the potential to help over 50 crore individuals. Beneficiaries of this programme are eligible to get free medical care by being admitted to any of the nation’s designated public or private hospitals. This covers major illnesses, pre-existing conditions, nursery procedures, surgery, and other required medical care.

In Delhi, what will be different?

The Central Government and the Delhi Government have partnered to provide health insurance up to Rs 10 lakh to eligible Delhi households. In the past, Delhi’s health coverage was limited to state government programmes, but since the Centre’s programme was added, it has increased. People are said to have benefitted from this programme in a city like Delhi, where medical expenses are high. Families from lower-middle-class and impoverished backgrounds may now afford to get care at large hospitals.

Which services are going to be beneficial?

  • Free medical care while at the hospital
  • Daycare treatments (such chemotherapy, dialysis, etc.)
  • Operations and surgeries
  • medications and any other tests, if admitted to the hospital
  • Additionally included is the treatment of pre-existing conditions.

Which services are excluded?

Even though this programme has a broad reach, several services are still beyond its scope:

  • OPD services: You will be responsible for paying for the hospital’s costs if you visit it only to see a doctor or to get treatment for a common illness.
  • Tests performed without admission: The programme does not pay the cost of any tests performed if they are not performed on a doctor’s recommendation prior to hospitalisation.
  • Non-urgent care or cosmetic surgery

What is the future plan?

Under this programme, the federal government is thinking of paying for OPD treatments and required testing without admission. This plan will become more inclusive if this occurs.

How do I apply?

Eligible families must have their Ayushman Bharat cards created in order to get the advantages of this programme. You may apply for this by visiting the government hospital or public service centre that is closest to you. You will get a golden card upon application with your Aadhar card and other required paperwork. This card will be required throughout the course of therapy.
