Sunflower cultivation: Sow sunflower along with wheat in Rabi season, you will earn a lot

Sunflower cultivation: Farmers should plant many crops under mixed farming in order to increase their farming profits. According to agricultural experts, farmers that plant alternative crops in addition to their primary crop may protect it from illness and earn extra revenue. For instance, in addition to the primary crop of wheat, one may grow sunflower, gram, mustard, safflower buds, lentils, linseed, etc. during the Rabi season to supplement their revenue.

Dr. GS Kulmi, prominent agricultural scientist and head of Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone Krishi Vigyan Kendra, informed the media that farmers may produce two crops in the same field at the same time by using the intercropping technique, also known as mixed farming. Farmers are able to produce more as a result. The cost is relatively minimal, and the income doubles. By doing this, many farmers are making substantial profits. Some people engage in multilayer farming.

Avoid mixing seeds, even accidentally.

Although Rabi season sowing is already practiced across the nation, including in Khargone, farmers who choose to plant late wheat may employ this method to increase the yield of other crops in addition to wheat. It is important to remember that wheat should never be seeded alongside seeds of other crops. Fixed rows are the best way to plant intercrops.

Technique for planting crops

Use the 6:4 rule for planting gram and wheat in the same field. This means that you should plant gram in 4 lines and wheat in 6 lines. On the other hand, plant six rows of wheat following two rows of other crops, such as sunflower. Farmers may also use a multicrop seed drill for this. This will have two intercrop rows and six main crop rows.

Use caution while using the intercropping approach.

Dr. Kulmi, an agricultural expert, advises choosing wheat types with lower water requirements when using the intercropping approach. This is because intercropping crops like gram demand less water. Farmers might choose the Prachi or HI 1500 wheat varieties for this. Even with two irrigations, wheat may be produced in this way, and crops like gram, mustard, sunflower, and others also need the same quantity of water.

The advantages of intercropping

Agricultural experts say intercropping helps farmers make more money. In addition to reduced irrigation, there is also less disease and insect infestation in the primary crop, wheat. The way that nutrients are used in both crops is balanced. The usage of fertilizers, pesticides, weed killers, and land and light is also balanced.
