The Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Research Institute’s Extension Officer, Dr. Sanjeev Pathak, said that white grubs cause sugarcane leaves to become yellow and eventually wither. When the afflicted sugarcane is removed, it comes out readily. When the roots are examined, damage marks and holes are seen. It’s critical to continue pulling weeds from the field periodically. Avoid growing sugarcane in the same spot year after year.

When growing sugarcane in the field, use fipronil. As a result, there is less chance of white grubs getting into sugarcane. However, if white grubs have already appeared in the crop, a light trap may be used to quickly eradicate them.

Light trap: what is it?

White grubs may also be managed by farmers using light traps (prakash prapanch). On the field’s edge, farmers ought to illuminate a yellow lightbulb. Put a toxic pesticide diluted in water in a tub under the bulb. It attracts the male insects that feed on white grubs. and die after falling in the bathtub. The next generation of white grub insects is not produced if the males die.

Additionally, organic techniques work well.

In addition, farmers may use organic measures to manage white grubs. Farmers should do this by combining 2 kg of Bavaria bassiana Metarhizium anisoplia with cow manure and placing it close to the roots of sugarcane plants in an acre of land. White grubs are eradicated and die as a result.

Apply a chemical pesticide dressing.

In the fields where white grub infestations are seen. Chemical therapy is one way to provide relief there. Farmers should drench 200 grams of Clothianidin 50%WDG in 1875 liters of water close to the roots to control white grubs.
