Mahogany tree farming: The Aurangabad farmer has discovered a method to make money from trees, despite the adage that money does not grow in trees. In two bighas, the district’s farmer has grown mahogany trees. The price of a kilogram of this mahogany tree is hundreds of rupees. In addition to mahogany trees, the farmer has also planted teak trees.
Kanchan Gupta, a farmer from Shankarpur village in the Obra block of the Aurangabad district, has grown mahogany trees in two bighas. According to the farmer, he also grows veggies. However, he made an investment by planting this tree. In 2021, the farmer planted one acre of teak and mahogany trees. which, when progressively ready, will provide a profit of millions of rupees for him.
Each bigha has 200 mahogany trees.
Only in the fall is it deemed appropriate to grow mahogany trees. 15 degrees in the winter and 30 degrees in the summer are ideal growing temperatures for these trees. According to farmer Sudhir, each bigha now has between 150 and 200 mahogany trees planted. It has cost around two lakh rupees to cultivate. A mahogany tree takes around ten to twelve years to mature.
A single tree costs about forty thousand dollars.
According to the farmer, a kilogram of teak or mahogany trees may fetch hundreds of dollars. However, they both have rather distinct growth systems. In contrast, teak trees reach a height of around 10 feet in only two years. Mahogany trees only reach a height of 6-7 feet. The leaves of the mahogany tree are also used to make a variety of herbs. In addition, a mahogany tree costs between forty and fifty thousand rupees.
This tree is in the greatest demand. because plywood and furniture are made using it. Nonetheless, nations like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, and Rajasthan are home to extensive mahogany cultivation.
