This sapling has been sold in Karauli by Madhya Pradesh traders for a number of days. This sapling’s uniqueness is that it produces 200 maunds of onions in a single bigha. According to him, this plant produces Desi red onions, which are particularly good for salads. Hari Singh, a farmer dealer in Karauli who sells this plant from Madhya Pradesh, claims to have grown it from hybrid seeds in the fields. The market is booming with demand.
Ten to twelve vendors from the MP city of Vijaypur are now traveling to Karauli to market this Desi onion plant. The dealers claim that there is a significant level of market demand for this plant. In Karauli, this plant is now being sold for Rs 60 per kilogram. Because of the Desi red onion output, many people are purchasing it. This sapling has just recently begun to appear on the market and will be there for a period of one and a half months. According to Amar, a local farmer, this is excellent for the cultivation of red onions in the area. Since seeds are pricey, this sapling is less costly than seeds. He claims that the single red onion produced by the plant cultivated from this sapling has a great flavor and can be used to season other vegetables.
