Cultivation of Urad: In addition, farmers have begun growing urad throughout the summer wet season. However, growing urad requires particular attention to two or three factors. According to Dr. Ashish Tripathi, a senior scientist at Sagar Krishi Vigyan Kendra, the urad crop has not been doing well during the wet season for the last two to three years. Because of this, growing urad in the summer is a great alternative; it may be sown until the end of March.
IPU 02-43, IPU 94-1, Indira Urad Pratham, KU 96-3, Shekhar 3 (KU 309), Pratap Udai-1, and BM-4 may all be sown in the summer. These seeds do not have the yellow mosaic issue; they are all resistant to the disease.
Ten to twelve kg of seeds are planted per acre if a farmer is beginning urad agriculture for the first time. use fungicide to the seeds; for insecticide, use amidachloropid or 48% thymethoxam to prevent white corn attack.
As you sow, add 10 kg of potash, 10 to 12 kg of urea, and two bags of single super phosphate. If this isn’t possible, you may also apply 25 kg of DAP and 10 kg of potash over the field, then plow and plant.
We must irrigate urad in eight to ten days if farmers have a two-box seeder and fill it with seeds and fertilizer separately before planting. It will take four to five irrigations before the urad crop ripens and is ready.
Six to eight quintals are produced per acre. Since it takes 70 days for urad to mature and be ready, we may also utilize the summer harvest as seed during the rainy season.
