For the last two years, blue potatoes have been grown in Kapuria of Sagar by Aakash Chaurasia, the founder of multi-layer farming. He made almost two and a half lakhs last year by growing blue potatoes on half an acre of land. Farmers are now visiting his farm home to learn about its attributes from farmers in different states. According to Akash, the Shimla Research Center produced this potato and imported the seeds.

Blue potato cultivation thrives in loamy sandy soil; in fields with normal pH, scatter 100 kg of lime dust. Since the cold arrived later this year, this is the ideal time to plant, with around 800 potatoes planted each acre.

Seed treatment: To treat seeds, add one kilogram of limestone to fifteen liters of clean water, let it sit for ten to fifteen minutes, then remove it and spread it out in the shade for ten to fifteen minutes before planting.

Planting technique: Plant this crop in a single line using open farming, or monocrop systems, by creating a one-foot-wide ridge eight to nine inches apart and a half-foot deep drain. It may also be planted outside using a potato planter. Additionally, in multilayer farming, plant in three rows on a bed that is four feet wide, with a gap of 2.5 to 3 inches and an 8 to 9-inch spacing between each line.

This crop may be harvested in around 100 to 110 days, yields 150 quintals on average, and sells for between Rs 60 and Rs 70 per kilogram in the market. At the moment, its seed costs Rs 100.
