Rooftop Farming Scheme: The “Rooftop Gardening Scheme” was started by the Bihar government to encourage the production of fruits, flowers, and vegetables in urban areas. This program’s goal is to encourage individuals to cultivate vegetables, fruits, and flowers on their home’s roof. The cities of Patna, Bhagalpur, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur have all adopted this plan. The Farming Bed Scheme and Pot Scheme are its two main parts. A 75% subsidy, or ₹36,430.50, would be provided under the Farming Bed Scheme for gardening in an area of 300 square feet at a cost of ₹48,574. At the same time, the pot plan would provide a ₹ 6,731.25 subsidy at a cost of ₹ 8,975 per unit.

Farming Bed Scheme: What is it?

Rooftop farming requires 300 square feet of area under the Farming Bed Scheme. Beneficiaries of the program get equipment such as fruit trees, sprayers, drip systems, organic gardening kits, portable farming systems, on-site assistance, and other supplies needed for sophisticated farming.

A maximum of two units may be used under this system by homeowners. On the other hand, apartment dwellers will only be allowed to use this program with the society’s approval. Meanwhile, up to five units would be made available to educational and other organizations.

Supplies to be supplied under the Farming Bed Program

The participants of the program will get all the equipment required for farming, including:

  • Portable Farming System (Cultivation Area: 40 square feet + Walk Area: 30 square feet)
  • Nine-month Organic Gardening Kit
  • Bags of Fruit Plants (6 pieces)
  • Spinach Growing Round Bags (5 units)
  • Including the bucket, motor, and drip system
  • On-site assistance every month (18 times)

What is the plan for the pot?

The pot system may be used by anybody who does not have a 300 square foot area. The government would provide a 75% subsidy, or Rs 6,731.25, towards the overall cost of the pot program, which is Rs 8,975 per unit. Only Rs 2,243.75 will need to be paid by the recipient.

People will have the chance to grow fruits, decorative plants, medicinal plants, and permanent flower plants under this program. A maximum of five units may be used by a recipient to receive benefits under this system. Institutions will not profit from this program.

Materials covered by the pot scheme

Beneficiaries will have the chance to cultivate a variety of plants under the pot system. These consist of:

  • Fruit plants (no more than five): guava, mango, lemon, sapota, banana, and apple plum
  • Medicinal/aromatic plants: curry leaves, lemon grass, ashwagandha, stevia, mint, basil, aloe vera, and vasak (no more than five plants)
  • Plants that bloom year-round include roses, tagetes, jasmine, hibiscus, almonda, and bougainvillea (up to ten plants).
  • The areca palm, money plant, snake plant, croton, syngonium, and Christmas plant are examples of ornamental plants (up to ten plants).

Interested parties may apply online at the Horticulture Directorate of the Government of Bihar’s official website in order to participate in the rooftop gardening program.
