Farmers from all five of Hardoi’s tehsils are enthusiastic about growing vegetables, according to Subhash Chandra, the district horticulturist. This is because they are timely receiving veggies at a good market price. These days, Chaupal is used to alert farmers about the early vegetable crop. Meanwhile, growing pumpkins is turning out to be the most cost-effective and lucrative produce.

By the end of winter, the land is prepared and seeds are sown. About 100 quintals of pumpkin are produced on one acre of land, which costs Rs 5000. By deducting the farmer’s expenditures during the first break, pumpkin vegetable farming begins to put money in the farmer’s pocket. The dicotyledonous pumpkin plant covers the field with foliage and fruits when given proper care and management.

Growing Pumpkins will bring us Millions of Rupees

According to forward-thinking farmer Chandra Bhushan, who works in the district’s Horticulture and Agriculture departments, growing pumpkins requires choosing a location with ideal weather, rich soil, and an adequate drainage system. This is accomplished by deep plowing sandy loam or loamy soil to manage weeds and pests. Cow urine and dung are the most efficient and advantageous for the crop while the land is being prepared.

Numerous types, such as Kashi Harit and Pusa Vishwas, are productive fruit-bearing plants. Within five to ten days, seeds planted two to three centimeters deep begin to sprout. Because of the ideal weather, seeds planted in December, January, and February germinate effectively. Two feet is said to be the ideal spacing between beds for pumpkin seedlings. The drip irrigation technique is the most effective way to irrigate plants because it allows for the periodic delivery of fertilizer and water in the proper ratio.
