Success Story: This farmer from UP achieved great success through natural farming, know the whole story
Success Story: The majority of farmers in Agra fight to prevent their crops from drying up during the sweltering summer months, when temperatures may exceed 46°C. Chemical usage has reduced soil fertility, which leads to rapid water evaporation and crop withering. But even in the height of summer, Rohtan Singh’s land is still lush and healthy. His varied crops, which include wheat, mustard, and green feed for his Gir cows, thrive without the need for costly chemical inputs or intensive irrigation.

Singh’s creative use of natural farming not only guarantees the success of his crops but also earns him a consistent income from the sale of his products locally at a premium.
Transition from Chemical to Natural Agriculture
“For years, I watched my land grow weaker under chemical farming,” says Singh. “When the fodder dried up, I was forced to purchase pricey feed for my cows. However, even during the most severe months, my fields are still stocked with fresh, green feed since I made the transition to natural farming.
When Singh enrolled in the Art of Living’s Sri Sri Natural Farming program five years ago, his transformation started. He took a chance and discovered methods that would replenish his land rather than deplete it. Like a patient recuperating from a protracted illness, Singh saw his farm gradually restore its vitality by putting techniques like mulching, crop rotation, and cow urine treatments into practice.
Singh began by implementing natural farming on a tiny section of his one-acre property. The outcomes were astounding. The soil improved, pests became less of a problem, and the flavor of his crops improved. Inspired by these advancements, he used similar methods across his farm, transforming it into a sustainable and resilient model.
Providing a Year-Round Supply of Fodder
Sustaining a consistent supply of feed for his Gir cows despite the intense summer heat is one of Singh’s greatest accomplishments. Singh’s property stays wet and fruitful, in contrast to other fields where the chemically treated soil dries up and fractures. His cows always have access to fresh, high-protein feed thanks to Jeevamrit, a natural soil enhancer that increases water retention and lessens the need for frequent irrigation.
In addition to soil health, Singh found that Moringa plants were another revolutionary discovery. By providing essential shade, these trees shield fodder crops from the intense sunlight. Their leaves, which are rich in nutrients, also provide a great supplement for his cows. According to Singh, “My cows adore moringa leaves, and we even dry them to make natural medicine for joint pain.”
Singh’s farm not only survives the heat but also flourishes in spite of everything. Earthworms, which dig deeply and organically aerate the soil, are abundant in the soil and efficiently enable precipitation to flow in. Singh benefits from reduced irrigation expenses, minimal soil compaction, and no waterlogging as a consequence.
“In chemical farms, the soil gets so hard that water just runs off the surface,” Singh relates. “But here, the earth absorbs every drop like a sponge.” Singh’s farm thrives with little work since it only requires two tilling cycles every season, as opposed to his neighbors’ five.
Singh’s livelihood has changed as a result of natural farming, which has also revitalized his land. He produces enough fodder and high-quality mustard oil, which he sells locally, for only Rs 20,000 per acre each year. However, his creative approach is what makes him unique.
“I tell people, don’t just buy from me- adopt me as your farmer,” he continues. “This way, they get farm-fresh, chemical-free produce, and I get to farm sustainably.” By establishing a direct line of communication with customers, Singh guarantees their confidence and consistent demand for his goods.
A Movement With Ancient Wisdom at Its Foundation
Singh’s experience is a part of a broader movement in which farmers are reclaiming traditional knowledge and combining it with contemporary sustainable farming methods. This change is in line with the goals of international humanitarian Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who has long supported ecological farming.
“What is needed today is to rearm people’s faith in natural farming,” Gurudev states. “The misconception that chemical inputs are necessary for healthy crops is gradually dispelling, but more effort is still required. Farmers that use natural farming methods produce more and have more prosperous lives. The secret to a sustainable future and a better earth is this Rishi Krishi movement.
Singh’s achievement serves as evidence of the effectiveness of farming that is based on nature. His farm serves as evidence that agriculture can flourish in harsh environments if the proper skills and knowledge are applied. The vision of a more lucrative, sustainable, and environmentally friendly India becomes closer to reality as more farmers choose to follow his lead.
