Walnut Farming Tips: In this farming, farmers can earn more profit with less hard work, just have to keep these things in mind
Walnut Farming Tips: Traditional farming has been replaced with fruit growing in Uttarakhand’s hilly areas. Fruit seedlings should be planted in both plain and mountainous regions between mid-December and mid-January. In such a scenario, farmers in the hilly area may make big money if they grow walnuts. Because walnut production takes less maintenance, farmers may make more money with less effort.
The best period to plant subtropical fruit seedlings is between December 15 and January 15, according to Purushottam Badoni, Additional Training Officer of the Horticulture Department in Srinagar, who spoke to the media. Farmers in hilly areas must first choose a location for walnut gardening if they want to engage in the practice.
A month or so prior to planting walnut seedlings in the orchard, it is crucial to create a pit that is one meter long and one meter broad. The earth above and the soil below must be maintained apart when excavating the pit. The soil above must be maintained below and the soil below must be kept above when the sapling is planted in the hole.
This will raise the soil’s fertility.
In order to improve soil fertility, farmers may incorporate cow dung manure, DAP, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash into the soil. All of them must be maintained in quantities of no more than 100 grams. The next step is to grow a high-quality walnut plant variety. The grafted portion of the plant must remain above the ground as it is being planted.
When planting the plant, bear these points in mind.
Give the plant plenty of water after planting. Because walnut trees are large and take up more area, you should always put plants in your garden with a minimum of 25 feet between each other. In around five years, the walnut tree begins to develop fruit. Farmers may cultivate Kashmiri paper walnut and Australian walnut types in the hilly regions. In the mountainous environment, these types provide excellent yields.
Income will be generated for a century.
It is important to remember that a walnut tree bears fruit in proportion to its age. In other words, a tree will produce more fruits the older it gets. A walnut tree that is 10 years old, for instance, produces 20 to 25 kilogram of fruit annually.
In contrast, a tree that is 20 years old produces 30 to 40 kg of walnuts. On the other hand, a tree begins to yield 50–70 kg of walnuts once it reaches 30 years of age. A tree is between 100 and 150 kilogram old. However, the amount of fruit the tree will produce beyond the age of thirty is uncertain. In other words, this tree will provide revenue for a century, much like a pension.
