Farmer Rajesh Panjiyar is making a mark with pumpkin cultivation
Rajesh Panjiyar, a young farmer of Bhootahi Madhesra village in Sitamarhi district, has started cultivating this unique pumpkin. Rajesh has been growing Narendra Shivani species pumpkin since 2019. He told that usually two types of pumpkins were cultivated in the area, spherical and long. But he started this species, which is now becoming popular among local farmers.
Low cost and better profit
According to Rajesh Panjiyar, the cost of cultivation of Narendra Shivani species is less and the profit is more. He said, this is a species of winter days. It is sown between July and August. Better production is obtained by cultivating using scaffolding method.
This species of pumpkin is 6-7 feet long and weighs 7-10 kg. Light loamy soil with water retention capacity is considered most suitable for its cultivation.
Also best in taste and nutrition
Rajesh told that the taste of this species of pumpkin is similar to that of traditional pumpkin. He said, this pumpkin gives the same taste as was found in the dishes prepared by my grandmother.
