Tomato Farming: You’ve probably seen women cooking in the countryside and at home a lot, but the female farmer in Bhiti village in Mirzapur is making millions of rupees by growing tomatoes and doing other domestic tasks. The crop grown in the field itself is purchased by traders. With a cost of around fifty thousand rupees, it is easy to earn three to four lakh rupees. Earnings are unaffected even in cases of low demand.
Chironji Devi, a female farmer from the Rajgarh region’s Bhiti village, has grown tomatoes in three bighas. Chironji Devi has been growing veggies and making thousands of rupees for the last five years or so. Chironji Devi, a female farmer, informed the media that she had grown tomatoes of the Viraja and Sampurna types. August is the month when seeds are sown. By December, production will begin. The strength of the crops determines the yield. The yield might be high or low at different periods.

According to Chironji Devi, one bigha costs around fifty thousand rupees. One bigha is expected to provide a profit of 1.5 to 2 lakh rupees. Both Viraja and Sampurna plants do not deteriorate rapidly. This explains why a single plant may yield around 20 kg of tomatoes. In the market, it costs between 20 and 25 rupees a kilogram.

There is no need to worry about selling the tomatoes once they are ripe, according to Chironji Devi. Tomatoes are purchased by traders from Mughalsarai, Raebareli, and other surrounding regions. Since the sale is made from the field, there are no issues. Women may spend some time growing tomatoes if they are at home. This crop is lucrative.
