One of the most efficient ways to grow garlic is to cover the area with straw, often known as mulch. It helps to keep the field wet, regulates the field’s temperature, and inhibits the development of weeds. Additionally, productivity is enhanced by the proper and balanced use of fertilizers.

This is how to prepare the land for growing garlic

According to agriculture expert Dr. Ramakant Singh, farmers may lower costs and increase productivity by using a scientific approach and the appropriate technology. According to Dr. Singh, the land should be plowed two or three times with a cultivator prior to garlic planting. Next, combine 12 quintals of compost manure per hectare on the field and plow it again after softening the soil with one or two ploughings. Garlic should then be planted in straight rows by farmers.

Use this method to get rid of the weed issue

Immediately after seeding, provide the first light watering. Garlic begins to germinate two to three days after watering. However, weeds begin to appear in the field at this period. Farmers should quickly cover the land with half an inch of straw or husk after planting garlic to prevent this. According to Dr. Singh, this technique not only gets rid of weeds but also boosts the activity of beneficial bacteria for the crop in the field. This initiates the soil’s natural nutrient supply. As a consequence, farmers may make more money at a lesser cost since the requirement for irrigation and fertilizers is cut in half.
