Growing Mushrooms: A Successful Enterprise

Progressive farmer Ramchandra Dubey said that growing mushrooms is a very lucrative agricultural practice in an interview with Krishi Jagran. The main benefit of this is that it can be grown at a minimal cost, which helps farmers make excellent money. The most unique feature of this farming method is that it can be carried out inside, preventing weather-related crop harm.

This is particularly helpful for farmers who often worry about weather-related crop loss. Because it can be done inside, mushroom farming is also a fantastic choice for women.

According to Ramchandra Dubey, growing mushrooms also generates jobs. Mushroom farming has the potential to be a significant source of income, particularly in rural locations with few work options.

Nutritional Properties and Solutions

Straw may also be addressed by mushroom growing, which is another significant benefit. Growing mushrooms is a good way to utilize straw, which is becoming a major issue for farmers.

In addition, mushrooms have a wealth of nutritional qualities, and eating them is very healthy. Because of its high protein, vitamin, and mineral content, eating it provides the body with a variety of nutrients.

Cost and Profit of Mushroom Farming

Both button mushrooms and oysters have been successfully cultivated by Ramchandra Dubey. He claims that although compost for oyster mushrooms is ready in two to three days, compost for button mushrooms takes about 28 days to make. Button mushroom cultivation is a bit more expensive and time-consuming than oyster mushroom production.

Buttons can only be grown twice a year at a cheap cost, but oyster mushrooms may be grown eight times a year at a low cost. On the other hand, button mushrooms are in great demand and sell for a premium.

According to Ramchandra Dubey, button mushrooms need four months to mature, but oyster mushrooms are ready in two and a half months. The whole expense of growing mushrooms in a 10 by 10 room is around 5,000 rupees. The farmer receives a profit of 5,000 rupees or a 100% return on this expense.

Training for Growing Mushrooms

Ramchandra Dubey asserts that in order for farmers to grow mushrooms, they must have the appropriate instruction. It is challenging to be successful in this farming without the right training. Farmers may get instruction in mushroom growing by going to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra that is closest to them. Krishi Vigyan Kendra experts provide farmers with agricultural techniques and associated knowledge so they may improve their farming practices.

The Market Price of Mushrooms

The market price of mushrooms varies according on their grade and variety. While oyster mushrooms are offered for between Rs 100 and Rs 200 per kilogram, button mushrooms may cost anywhere from Rs 200 to Rs 500 per kg.

Approximately 2000 bogies are used by Ramchandra Dubey to grow button mushrooms using a unique technique. In addition, in partnership with other farmers, he grows oyster mushrooms. He produces 20 to 25 quintals of button mushrooms a year, which brings him a healthy profit.

Motivation for Other Farmers

In addition to being the product of his diligence and hard work, progressive farmer Ramchandra Dubey’s success story serves as motivation for other farmers. He often teaches other farmers how to grow mushrooms and educates them about the advantages of this kind of farming. He asserts that farmers may produce mushrooms at a reasonable cost and make high profits provided they have the necessary knowledge and expertise.

Ramchandra Dubey’s message is that farmers should focus on low-cost, contemporary agricultural methods like mushroom growing in addition to conventional farming. They will become self-sufficient, which will boost the rural economy in addition to increasing their income.
